The Sociotechnical Imperative

We are navigating an unprecedented period of challenge and opportunity.

From the pandemic to remote work to the Great Resignation, much of the world changed over the past two years. How we work, live and learn will undoubtedly continue to evolve.

ConnectedCommunities focuses on three significant sociotechnical challenges:

Digital Job Skills Training

Many of the 11.5 million open jobs in the U.S. have resulted from the growing skills gap across industries. While a staggering three out of four employees lack the digital skills required by businesses, only 28% of employees participate in training programs today.

Educational Inequity

During the pandemic, millions of low-income, minority and at-risk youth were thrust into remote learning in urban and rural areas that lack internet access and the digital resources to participate. As schools resume in-person enrollment, two years of disrupted and disconnected learning has critically impacted already disadvantaged students.

The

Digital Divide

Nearly 150 million Americans are living in underserved communities that lack geographic access to the internet, while also facing an affordability gap.
